Prepare for Your Boudoir Photography Session

Boudoir sessions are personal by nature, and there is no single way you are supposed to look, dress, pose, or feel when you walk into the studio.

You do not need modeling experience. You do not need to know how to pose. And you definitely do not need to arrive feeling completely fearless in front of the camera.

Your session is guided from beginning to end, with plenty of room to communicate what feels comfortable, what does not, and what you want your photographs to feel like.

This guide will help you prepare your wardrobe, personal items, grooming, and expectations before your boudoir session with Coastal Photo Studio.

Boudoir Is 18+ Only

Boudoir sessions are available only to clients who are 18 years of age or older.

Valid identification may be requested when needed.

Start With How You Want the Session to Feel

Boudoir does not have to mean one specific look.

Your session can feel:

  • Soft and romantic
  • Clean and minimal
  • Bold and dramatic
  • Playful
  • Editorial
  • Moody
  • Casual and relaxed
  • Glamorous
  • Somewhere in between

You do not have to fit yourself into someone else’s idea of what boudoir is supposed to look like.

If you have a particular style or mood in mind, let me know before your session so we can plan lighting, wardrobe, and setups around it.

What to Wear

Bring pieces that make you feel comfortable and that fit the type of photographs you want to create.

Options may include:

  • Lingerie sets
  • Bodysuits
  • Robes
  • Oversized shirts
  • Button-down shirts
  • Sweaters
  • Tank tops
  • Simple underwear sets
  • Dresses
  • Jeans
  • Jackets
  • Heels or boots
  • Barefoot looks
  • Jewelry
  • Something meaningful to you

Boudoir does not require lingerie.

A tank top and jeans, oversized sweater, button-down shirt, or simple fitted outfit can photograph beautifully.

Bring options that feel like you.

Try Everything On Before Your Session

Please try your wardrobe on before session day.

Make sure:

  • Everything fits comfortably
  • Straps and closures sit correctly
  • Pieces are not damaged
  • Shoes are comfortable enough to pose in
  • You know how each outfit looks from different angles
  • Tags or stickers have been removed
  • Clothing is clean and ready to photograph

If something already makes you uncomfortable at home, it probably will not magically become comfortable in front of a camera.

Bring pieces you actually want to wear.

Undergarments & Clothing Marks

If your session includes exposed shoulders, back, waist, hips, or legs, consider what you wear immediately before arriving.

Tight bras, socks, waistbands, and fitted clothing can sometimes leave temporary marks on the skin.

If that matters to you, choose looser clothing while getting ready and traveling to the studio.

This is completely optional — temporary marks are normal and not something you need to stress about.

Hair, Makeup & Grooming

Professional hair and makeup are not required unless you choose to arrange them separately.

Prepare yourself in whatever way makes you feel most like you.

Before your session, you may want to check:

  • Hair styled the way you want it photographed
  • Makeup finished and comfortable
  • Nails clean or polished if desired
  • Jewelry selected
  • Skin moisturized if that is already part of your routine
  • Clothing free of lint
  • Hair ties removed from wrists
  • Temporary items you do not want photographed removed when possible

Avoid making dramatic changes to your appearance immediately before your session unless that is intentional.

Session day is probably not the ideal time to discover whether you like a completely new hairstyle.

What to Bring

Depending on the looks we have planned, you may want:

  • Wardrobe options
  • Shoes
  • Jewelry
  • Robe or cover-up
  • Hairbrush or comb
  • Makeup for touch-ups
  • Lip balm
  • Water
  • Any meaningful personal item we have discussed
  • A bag for keeping worn and unworn clothing separated

Keep your wardrobe reasonably organized so we can spend more time photographing and less time untangling straps.

You Do Not Need to Know How to Pose

You will be guided.

That includes:

  • Where to stand
  • Where to sit
  • What to do with your hands
  • Where to look
  • How to position your legs
  • How to shift your weight
  • When to move
  • Facial expressions
  • Small adjustments that photograph well

Some poses may feel different than they look.

That is normal.

My job is to see what the camera sees and guide you through the process.

Your Comfort Level Sets the Session

Nothing is required simply because you booked a boudoir session.

You decide what you wear and how much you show.

You are always allowed to say:

  • “I don’t want to do that pose.”
  • “Can we adjust this?”
  • “I’d rather keep this covered.”
  • “Can we try something different?”
  • “I need a minute.”

There is no photograph that requires ignoring your comfort level.

We can adapt.

Privacy & Image Sharing

Your boudoir session is private.

Your photographs are not automatically used on the Coastal Photo Studio website, social media, advertising, portfolio materials, or other public platforms simply because you booked a session.

Any permission to publicly share boudoir photographs is handled separately.

You are never required to agree to public sharing in order to book or receive your photographs.

Studio Boudoir Sessions

Standard boudoir sessions are photographed at Coastal Photo Studio in downtown North Bend.

The studio provides a private, controlled environment where we can manage lighting, backdrops, wardrobe changes, posing, and the overall mood of your photographs.

We may use a combination of:

  • Studio lighting
  • Natural-feeling light
  • Different backgrounds
  • Standing poses
  • Seated poses
  • Floor poses
  • Close-up details
  • Movement
  • Multiple wardrobe looks

We will work through the session one setup at a time.

You do not need to perform or constantly know what comes next.

I will guide you.

Want Something Beyond the Studio?

On-location boudoir sessions are available as an upgrade.

Location sessions add $99 to your total booking.

I currently have two private location options that may be available depending on scheduling:

The Sparrow’s Nest

A private location option available by advance arrangement and subject to availability.

The Tower House

Another private location option available by advance arrangement and subject to availability.

Availability for either location is not guaranteed until arrangements have been confirmed.

If you already have another location in mind, I am also happy to consider it. All alternate locations must be discussed and approved in advance to make sure the space is appropriate for photography, privacy, access, lighting, and the type of session we are planning.

The $99 location upgrade applies to approved boudoir sessions photographed away from Coastal Photo Studio.

Preparing for a Location Boudoir Session

Location sessions require a little more planning than studio sessions.

Please consider:

  • Privacy
  • Changing space
  • Parking and access
  • Weather if any portion is outdoors
  • Temperature
  • Walking distance
  • What you will carry between setups
  • A robe or cover-up
  • Comfortable shoes for moving between areas
  • How much privacy the location realistically provides

Depending on the location, we may also have less control over lighting, furniture, background elements, and other people nearby than we do inside the studio.

That is part of what makes location sessions different — and why we plan them ahead of time.

If Your Session Includes Studio + Location Photography

If we are using both Coastal Photo Studio and another approved location, keep wardrobe, shoes, cover-ups, and touch-up items organized and easy to move.

Simple outfit changes can create a lot of variety without using unnecessary session time.

We will plan the order of the session around privacy, lighting, travel, wardrobe changes, and the locations being used.

The $99 location upgrade applies when an off-site location is included.

Changing & Personal Belongings

You will have space to change your wardrobe during studio sessions.

For location sessions, changing arrangements will depend on the space we are using and will be discussed beforehand.

Keep your belongings together and organized so outfit changes stay simple.

Please take all personal items with you when your session is finished.

If you are bringing valuable jewelry or meaningful items, keep track of them throughout the session and make sure everything leaves with you.

Bringing Someone With You

If you would feel more comfortable bringing a trusted person for support, please ask before your appointment.

Because boudoir sessions require privacy, limited working space, and a comfortable environment, additional guests should always be discussed in advance.

Anyone attending must respect the session, the space, and your privacy.

What If I Feel Nervous?

That is extremely common.

You do not need to arrive feeling completely comfortable in front of a camera.

Most people do not.

We start simple.

You will receive direction.

You will have time to settle in.

And as the session progresses, posing usually feels less unfamiliar.

You are not expected to walk in and instantly know what to do.

During Your Boudoir Session

Your session may include a mix of:

  • Full-length portraits
  • Close-up details
  • Seated poses
  • Standing poses
  • Movement
  • Softer expressions
  • More confident or dramatic looks
  • Multiple wardrobe options
  • Different lighting setups

Not every photograph has to look seductive.

Some may feel soft, strong, relaxed, playful, serious, or simply beautiful.

Variety is part of the session.

What Happens After Your Session?

After your photographs are prepared, you’ll receive a private online gallery.

Your gallery will explain what is included with your session and what additional digital photographs, album options, or printed products may be available.
